Pages 24-25 : Parmi beaucoup d'autres sculptures, son "OMAGGIO AD ARCIMBOLDO", est, de ce point de vue, une réussite complète. Arcimboldo, on le sait, est l'un des artistes les plus énigmatiques de l'histoire de la peinture. Né en 1527 à Milan, il passa 26 ans à Prague où il fut au service, successivement, des empereurs Ferdinand Ier et Rodolphe II, qui le couvrit d'or et d'honneurs. Les têtes composées qu'il a peintes en grand nombre combinent métophoriquement des fruits, des fleurs, des légumes, des racines, des poissons... L'ensemble s'y exprime à chaque fois par des groupes de transformation : ce sont des livres qui font "LE BIBLIOTHECAIRE", la souche, le lierre, les champignons, symboles de la saison morte qui font "L'HIVER". Plus que de la simple bizarrerie, les têtes d'Arcimboldo procèdent d'un affleurement comporable à celui des photos aériennes dont les anomalies végétales montrent les ruines qu'elles ne sont pas.
